Henk Hogeveen

I am Henk Hogeveen. I was raised on a dairy farm and studying Animal Science was a logical choice. I graduated as MSc from Wageningen Agricultural University in 1989, where I developed an interest in animal health and in economics. After my MSc in Wageningen, I could start as an associated researcher at the Department of Herd Health and Reproduction of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Utrecht University, where I got my PhD on the use of Artificial Intelligence to diagnose mastitis. After a few years working at research institutes, I am working in academia, currently as personal professor at the chair group Business Economics of Wageningen University. My teaching and research activities are mainly directed at economics of animal health. Within that field I have developed a special interest for the support of decisions on animal health (especially production diseases) and the use of technology there-in. This aligns very nice with the objectives of the OBSeRVeD project. Besides my research and teaching, I am one of the founders of the International Association for Precision Dairy Farming (amongst others).
